Reinventing Your Career

What if I'm not passionate about my job?
The reality is . . .not everyone needs to feel
passionate about their work. There are people who are
successful in their work, and derive a sense of personal
fulfillment in activities outside of their work. It is
possible to be content in your life without loving your
work. The point is to have something in your life that
you love to do; in work, play, or “other”.
However, if you're currently lacking passion in your
worklife and its because you're bored with your
job/career; there are practical strategies for
overcoming boredom.

Are you in the groove? (Job Trends for 2007)
According to Matt Ferguson, CEO Careerbuilder.com,
"employers are expected to become more competitive in
their recruitment and retention efforts in 2007 as the
pool of skilled labor shrinks and productivity growth
plateaus. Forty percent of employers report they
currently have job openings for which they can't find
qualified candidates."
Sounds like good news if you're looking for work.
And, there's more. . .

"Get Real" Tips
|
|
Have you "googled" yourself lately?
What's out "there" could be surprising, not only to
you but to your prospective employer!
More and more people are using the internet as a
resource to gain additional information about
prospective candidates while considering them as a
future employee, a vendor, a partner, a board member,
etc. Granted, the information on the internet is only as
"good" as the source it came from, but it has become the
"go to" place for many. You may not always be able to
control what others post about you, but you can be
mindful about what you post about yourself.
When was the last time you did an internet search on
yourself? If you haven't done it; you should. Make it a
habit to be aware of what's out there.

National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 2, 2007!
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in
America. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) kills over 480,000
women a year, about one per minute.
Everyone (men too!) can support the fight against
heart disease in women by wearing red on February 2,
2007— Go Red For Women Day. It’s a simple, powerful way
to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke. By
joining together with thousands of women, companies and
organizations, and cities across America, you’ll help
the American Heart association support ongoing research
and education about women and heart disease.

Living a life of passion.
In 1998 I participated in an executive learning forum
exercise that required us to gather items from within
our meeting room and create a representation depicting
what we perceived our lives would be like ten years
hence. Looking around the room, I noticed a vase filled
with sunflowers sitting on the buffet table. I grabbed
it, walked back to my seat, and . . .
