Dear Lorraine,
In addition to dads, grads and brides being celebrated this
month, I'm taking this time to do a "mid-year" check up by
looking back on a couple of stories I published in BBP January
2007.
I'll also share some ideas for those of you who are struggling
with work-life balance issues by suggesting you take a
slightly different view. And, we'll look at what it means to
be a "versatilist" in the flat world.
Lastly, here's some noteworthy news! We've got a new website
for our publication library. Please be sure to visit
www.boomer-bloomer.com for all the back issues of BBP!
As always, please feel free to spread the word and share your
"virtual bloomers" with colleagues, friends, and family!
Now . . . read on!

Reinventing Your Career

Be fabulous at any age in your career!
If "60" is the new "50" and "50" is the new "30"; then
those in their 40's who are just coming into being
"themselves" may be the most fabulous of all ages when it
comes to making those career altering transitions. But,
let's forget the age labels for now and look at being
fabulous at any age in your career.

How to stand tall in a flat world.
Gartner Inc. coined the word "versatilist" and Tom
Friedman described the value of the versatilist in his
book, The World is Flat. Have you built a rich portfolio
of knowledge and competencies to fuel multiple business
objectives? Are you standing tall in a flat world? . . .

Implementing a self-sustainability plan
Work will consume your life unless you set boundaries,
keep a schedule and follow these other methods for
ensuring the corporate machine doesn't swallow your soul.
(And if you think you're too busy to read this article,
then you probably really need to read it.)

into the work, you know. It was the real life that I had
trouble with. - - ROSEANNE BARR, Larry King Live, Mar. 2,

Getting Connected

Pomp and Circumstance
In addition to the job search process itself, we help
new college grads learn business etiquette and protocol
commonly utilized in the corporate world. Everything from
making the best first impression, to networking, to
business correspondence, to understanding how a
matrix-management organization works, and so on.
With more than a million new grads, we realize there is
nothing more important than starting them on the right
foot as they enter the economic workforce.

You Can Live an Island Life in Second Life
It's not that I've moved into Second Life, but I do
continue to find it very intriguing. Here is a follow up
to my story published in my January 2007 issue of BBP.
Second Life is a 3-dimensional online digital world
imagined, created, and owned by its residents. The
population at Second Life (www.secondlife.com)
is now more than 7,105,070 up from 2,380,000 in January
2007. On 01/08/07 the site indicated that $US 928K were
spent in Second Life within the last 24 hours; on 06/09/07
that same metric is $US 1.8M.
Imagine; real people exchanging (spending) real money
for virtual money so they can buy virtual things and meet
virtual people. You can even purchase virtual real estate
in Second Life. Virtual islands are priced at US$1,675 for
65,536 square meters (about 16 acres). Monthly land fees
for maintenance are US$295.
I have to note that unlike the "real world", island
prices and maintenance fees in Second Life have not
changed since I last reported in January 2007!

Maintaining a Healthy Career - Mid Year Check Up
In January I wrote about how one of the best ways I
maintain a healthy career is to operate on the premise
that you cannot achieve greatness (success) all alone. It
takes the care and support of those you trust who are
somehow always "there" when you need them.
Now, let's visit my mid-year healthy career checklist.
Things from my career back "then": Highly self-motivated
purpose- driven born-to-lead willful personality (check),
sense of humor (check), all marbles accounted for (check,
check), support of those who believe in me (check, check,
and check!)
Things that are pertinent "now": All of the things from
"then" (check), sustainable lifetyle (check), virtual
assistant (check), awesome accountant who understands my
small biz issues (check, check), support of those who
still believe in me (check, check, and triple check!)
Here's to your good career health! Best :) LLR
