Dear Lorraine,
Wow! What a hyper-volatile day we've had in the stock market -
- highs and lows that could knock you off your seat! Not to
mention Hurricane Ike leaving its path of devastation from the
gulf coast through the midwest, and large corporations
continuing to lay off workers in the tens of thousands as part
of multi-year right-sizing down-sizing strategies.
That's the reality of the situation but it's not the end of
the story. Although much of what is happening is out of your
direct control, you can control the way you respond and deal
with uncertainty in these challenging times. So, this month
I'll focus on helping you keep your wits about you as you
bounce back from some of the chaos in our world today.
Now more than ever, you'll need a positive attitude.
Maintain a positive attitude by finding your "true north" - -
focus on what's important to you. After all, when you take
care of "you" first, you'll be better able to take care of
others.
Thanks for your feedback and for taking the time to focus and
tune in for your monthly reality check. Now - - - Bloom on!

How's
your endurance?
At age 22 - He failed in business
At age 23 - He ran for the Legislature and was defeated
At age 24 - He failed in business, once again
At age 25 - He finally was elected to the Legislature
but then . . .
At age 29 - He was defeated for Speaker of the House
At age 34 - He was defeated for Congress
At age 39 - He lost another bid for Congress
At age 46 - He was defeated for the Senate
At age 47 - He was defeated for Vice President
At age 49 - He was again defeated for the Senate
however . . .
At age 51 - He was elected President of the United States
He was . . .
Abraham Lincoln
All of us have taken a hit, fallen down, or tripped at one
time or another in our lives. When it happens, you can decide
to either lay there and wallow in your situation, or you can
stand up and get on with it. By standing up you are taking
control of your own destiny - - because if you don't control
it, someone else will.
And, if you really must wallow a while, I give you permission
to throw yourself a 3-Minute "Pity Party". But that's the
limit, three minutes to feel sorry for yourself - - then get
up and get back in the game!

Taking action to be your best!
 Merely
talking about personal development won't make it happen,
you'll need to "do it!"
First, identify a few ambitious yet attainable goals, devise a
plan to make them happen, and then start working your plan.
Really work it!
Unfortunately, most people today don't have clearly defined
goals set for themselves. How can you expect improvement if
you don't know what you want to accomplish? Don't be one of
those people!
Think it through - write it down. Whether you're planning a
career destination that is three steps in front of you or
further out on the horizon, you'll have a better chance of
getting there with a roadmap (a plan) and a compass (a coach)!
